House Parent
The welfare of our students is the main priority during the summer and House Parents will therefore need to be highly attentive and well organised in their approach to welfare issues.
Main areas of responsibility:
- In charge of the general welfare of all students in the boarding houses and on campus at all times.
- Ensuring the safety and well being of the students during meals, in break times, in the boarding houses and in the evening.
- Overseeing all aspects of pastoral duties including wake up and lights out duties, laundry day, cleanliness and maintenance of the boarding houses.
- Ensuring the health and safety of all students specifically in attending to all medical issues as and when they arise and fulfilling the role of head first aider.
Hours of Work
House Parents work six days out of seven, usually receiving at least one full day off per week, plus periods off throughout the working day.
Main Duties
- Assume overall responsibility for the welfare of all students
- Be on duty during all (designated) meal and break times ensuring appropriate standards of student behaviour and supervising student welfare at all times
- Be responsible for attending to unwell students and make arrangements with doctors where necessary
- Keep records of incidents/sickness and medical issues and inform the centre manager thereof
- Make sure rooms are cleaned and maintained satisfactorily by cleaning and maintenance staff in boarding houses
- Perform wake up and lights out duty in the boarding houses assisted by a designated member of staff
- Take the lead for pastoral care with all students in your House, particularly to students when homesickness occurs
- Arrange telephone times for students
- Oversee issues of tidiness in the houses, and liaise with cleaning staff
- Manage the school's laundry operations
- Addressing potential issues of bullying and possible property theft in a professional and empathic manner
General Duties
In addition to welfare and pastoral duties, you will be involved in arrival and departure days as well as some evening activities and excursions in the later weeks. All members of staff are expected to engage with students in a friendly and professional manner at all times and to assist at anytime, whether on duty or not, with an emergency situation, or where a student is ill or injured.

- First Aid qualification or willingness to go for First Aid training arranged by Summer Boarding Courses
- Energy, enthusiasm and flexibility

Residential and Non Residential EFL Teachers
As a teacher at Norman Court your main responsibilities will be teaching English as a foreign language to multi-national students aged 8 -12. In addition you will be involved in the activity and excursion programmes, residential duties and all tasks associated with summer school.
Hours of Work
All teachers work a 13 session week, with a session being either a morning, afternoon or evening. Of these 13 sessions, 5 are spent in the classroom, while the other 8 are spent helping with the activities programme or on general duties, ensuring the safety and well being of the students during meals, in break times, in the boarding houses and at night. All teachers will usually receive at least one full day off per week.
Teaching Duties
- Assist the Director of Studies in testing students on their arrival.
- To teach as directed by the Director of Studies using the Norman Court International Summer School syllabus and other appropriate materials.
- Maintain administrative systems by preparing and keeping class lists, records of work, class registers and preparing certificates and reports
- Manage classroom behaviour effectively and ensure that the students all participate in lessons.
Activity Programme & General Duties
Teaching staff also play an important role outside of the classroom. During non-teaching sessions teachers are required to:
- Lead, supervise or assist with an activity session
- Assist with meal time and break time supervision
- Escort students to and from their houses and supervise while in the houses
- Perform wake up and lights out duties
- Assist at anytime, whether on duty or not, with an emergency situation, or where a student is ill or injured
- Engage with the students outside of the class in a friendly but professional manner
Must have...
- RSA CELTA/ Trinity TESOL or recognised TEFL qualification
- Energy, enthusiasm and flexibility
- A willingness and desire to be involved in the activity programme
- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to work as part of a team

Activity Manager
As an Activity Manager at Norman Court Summer School you will be responsible for the management, organisation and smooth running of the activity programme. Your role will involve managing and supporting the activity staff and ensuring students enjoy a wide variety of well-organised and well-executed activities..
Hours of Work
The Activity Manager will work six days out of seven and will have at least one full day off per week. Although the Activity Manager's main responsibilities concern the activity programme, s/he will also be expected to be aware of and involved in all aspects of the management of the course.
Main areas of responsibility:
- Implementation and monitoring of the activity programme
- Liaising with the specialist activities coaching staff
- Supporting and managing the activity and teaching staff in all aspects of the activity programme
- Organising the Special Interest programmes
General Duties
In addition to coordinating and overseeing the successful implementation of the activity programme, you will also be involved in assisting with arrival and departure days as well as some evening activities and excursions. As a member of the management team you will be expected to have an awareness of all aspects of the management of the centre and to assist with pastoral and welfare duties as and where necessary. All members of staff are expected to engage with students in a friendly and professional manner at all times and to assist at anytime, whether on duty or not, with an emergency situation, or where a student is ill or injured.

Assistant Centre Manager
The Assistant Centre Manager is not only responsible for liaising with and assisting the Centre Manager in all aspects of the day to day running of the school, but they must be confident to act as Centre Manager should the occasion arise.
The Assistant Centre Manager will work closely with the Director of Studies and the Activity Manager in running the summer programme. In addition, the Assistant Centre Manager will liaise with and assist the Transfer Manager to ensure the successful implementation and organisation of all aspects of the off-site activity programme and airport transfers.
Hours of Work
Assistant Centre Managers work six days out of seven and will have one full day off per week. Although the Assistant Centre Manager's main responsibilities lie with supporting the Centre Manager in the day to day running of the school and liaising with the Transfer Manager, the Assistant Centre Manager will also be expected to be aware of all aspects of the management and running of the centre.
Duties
The Assistant Centre Manager is responsible to the Centre Manager and must:
- Be able to act as the Centre Manager in all areas should the situation require it.
- Oversee the dining hall area at mealtimes ensuring appropriate standards of student behaviour and that the hall is left clean at all times
- Oversee break time duty
- Oversee and ensure all necessary fire drills are carried out
- Conduct feedback sessions on staff performance in conjunction with the Centre Manager
- Organise off-site evening activity trips
- Prepare student and group lists for all off-site activities and excursions
- Prepare activity leaders, teachers and group leaders for all trips and excursions
- Be present on every London excursion
- Liaise with the Transfer Manager to ensure that coach companies and tourist locations have confirmed numbers and times of arrival and departure
- Prepare staff for transfers and ensure all relevant information is available to them
- Deal sensitively with student and group leader enquires
- Getting your sleeves rolled up! You will be getting stuck in with whatever everyday brings, and need to be prepared for this
Other Duties
- Assist the Centre and Transfer Managers in coordinating and overseeing arrivals and departures
- Assist with house, morning and night time duties
- Have an awareness of all aspects of the management of the centre
- Assist with welfare and pastoral duties
- Supervising day excursions when required
